‘Statue of a Horse’ from the Uffizi Gallery on show at Fieracavalli
Another item joins the collection in what is becoming an authentic ‘widespread museum’ at Veronafiere, a project launched at the last Vinitaly Show which now continues with the 125th edition of Fieracavalli. The ‘Statue of a Horse’ is an equestrian work dating from I Century AD on loan from the Uffizi Gallery. It will remain on show in Verona until Sunday 12 November, in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry Pavilion with the aim of bringing art closer to the general public during the event.
This 2 metre high work in marble depicts a prancing horse that in turn represents an episode from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. It is usually on show in the Gallery of Statues and Paintings at the Uffizi.
The Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida, unveiled the statue and said: “Here at the show in Verona we have an extraordinary work dating from 2,000 years ago. It is on loan from the Uffizi and exhibited with the aim of interpreting within the Italian system everything that makes Italy unique: culture, tradition, passion and sporting results. We are targeting the future, innovation and new challenges, yet we also boast traditions going back thousands of years,” said Lollobrigida.
The President of Veronafiere, Federico Bricolo, commented: “Fieracavalli renews the partnership with
the Uffizi Museum inaugurated at Vinitaly 2023, when the Ministry of Agriculture Pavilion hosted Caravaggio’s ‘Bacchus’ and Guido Reni’s ‘Young’ Bacchus’,” Bricolo explained. “This initiative helps us promote the cultural content of our most important events on each occasion by putting forward an item associated with art to highlight the centrality of Italian culture and artistic heritage.”
