Tasting in solidarity with Ukraine at Vinitaly
The big heart of Vinitaly also wore the colours of Ukraine. Veronafiere decided to set aside all the proceeds from the on-payment tastings and master-classes scheduled at the 54th international exhibition of wines and spirits to populations affected by the war.
In all, 80,000 euros were raised in this way. This sum will be entirely donated to initiatives by Caritas Italiana in support of Ukrainian refugees. In particular, a total of 30 families now welcomed in Italy will receive assistance.
“We would never have imagined an edition of Vinitaly outside the pandemic tunnel but inside a tunnel of war” said Maurizio Danese, President of Veronafiere. A dramatic scenario that shakes us, poses questions of us and cannot leave us indifferent. This is why Veronafiere has decided to support initiatives organised by Caritas. A gesture of solidarity and fraternity that we are sure will nurture hope and dialogue to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible.”
Vinitaly 2022 also welcomed the “Wines for Peace” charity auction organized by the Brunello di Montalcino Wine Consortium in collaboration with the Chianti Classico DOCG Wine Consortium and the Bolgheri and Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC Wine Consortium.
The proceeds from the thirty lots of vintage wines offered by producers belonging to these consortia were auctioned by the Managing Director of Sotheby’s Italia, Filippo Lotti. All in all, 22,000 euros were raised on behalf of a number of reception facilities for refugees managed by Caritas in the Diocese of Siena-Colle Val d’Elsa-Montalcino.
